Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Hope you all are spending lots of time with friends and family.

Upcoming dates to remember:
Tuesday, August 19 for Percy Jackson's Greek Gods
Tuesday, October 7 for The Blood of Olympus

There's a rumor floating around that the Kanes will be in Heroes of Olympus book 5. Rick did say he was working on some more crossovers that go beyond Son of Sobek. Maybe Percy calls in a favor from Carter during the fight with Gaea?

Anywhere, here's a pic of Jason I found. Whether it's official or fan art, I don't know because I can't find it anywhere, but it's pretty accurate.

This really looks like it's from somewhere, and that Percy is next to him. If I can find it, I'll post the whole picture.

Blood of Olympus News and Other

I already posted about the release date being October 7, 2014. But apparently we also have an official synopsis? Apparently it's legit, because it's on Rick's site.

Also, it's available for pre-order!

And here's something else:

New Promo Photo!

From Percy Jackson's Greek Gods:

Hades and Persephone!

Remember, the book comes out August 2014.

Hope everyone had a safe and sweet Halloween!

BIG NEWS!

Already? Can it be? I was expecting a several-month wait for this info, but Amazon is pretty reputable and the books usually come out on the first Tuesday of the month...

WE HAVE THE RELEASE DATE AND OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS FOR THE BLOOD OF OLYMPUS! Even though Rick hasn't finished it. Whatever. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, right?

And the official synopsis!

New and Upcoming in the World of Riordan

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods is coming out very soon! August 2014, to be exact. Rumor has it that the book is illustrated and a total of 450 pages long. Here's the cover:

And what of the Kanes? Haven't heard from them in a while... hmm...

Oh right! There's that!

I am quite excited for both, I must say. However, I'm not crazy about how John Rocco draws all of the characters so...

House of Hades...

It's been almost a week since the release! I assume most of you have finished the book already. What do you think?

By the way, here's a picture of Nyx that kept forgetting to post...

Pretty neat, huh?

HE'S SUCH A TROLL

But, "dam", he's a gifted troll.

Big things to catch up on before Tuesday rolls around! You all ready to buy your copies?

Some lucky fans got advanced copies (don't ask me how; it's usually a screw up by a WalMart in middle-of-nowhere Oklahoma or something like that) but spoilers abound, most of which I try to avoid.

Here's one, however, that I'll share because it gives away nothing about the plot.

I kid you not, that is what he put as the dedication.

Here's a new character release that was on his instagram:

I'm not gonna lie, I'm nervous about Eros in this book. WHY THE GLOWING EYES? WHAT IS HE GOING TO DO TO PERCY AND ANNABETH?

This release has made me an emotional mess.

Anyway, here's a recent interview.

And something that physically scares me. (It's not a spoiler, don't worry.)

Lastly, a deleted scene from The Last Olympian, in which Percy and friends save Nancy Bobofit!

The lights of the city were blinking on. I guess they were on automatic timers. The streetlamps in the park glowed, making the lanes and the trees look spooky – like we needed any more spookiness.
Thalia stopped and tensed, like she was catching a scent. “I’ll be back. Need to check the Hunters on the right flank.”
Her bow appeared in her hands and she disappeared into the trees.
We stepped over bodies of sleeping New Yorkers, moving them to safety when we could. We were just coming to a stone bridge on the northern side of the park when we came across a dozen kids, all slumped next to a pretzel stand, like they’d been lined up to buy snacks.
            Grover yelped. “Percy . . . look.”
He crouched next to a girl with orange hair and freckles. She reminded me a little of Clarisse, because she was a big girl, like she was built for tackle football.
And then my eyes widened. “Oh my gods. It’s . . . Nancy?”
I hadn’t seen her in four years, but I still recognized her. Nancy Bobofit, a bully who’d made my life miserable in sixth grade. Grover and I had been at Yancy Academy, and she would pick on us mercilessly. She’d been around the first day I suspected that I was a demigod.
            “Who’s Nancy?” Annabeth asked.
“A girl we used to know,” Grover muttered. “Not a very nice girl.”
I looked at the other sleeping kids. Some I’d never seen, but a few looked familiar.
“This is our class from Yancy,” I said. “The must’ve been on the summer trip.”
“Yeah,” Grover said. He pointed to a lady in a flowery dress. “Here’s Mrs. Watt. She always chaperoned the summer New York trip. If we’d stayed at Yancy . . .”
He didn’t finish the thought. We both knew that was impossible. We didn’t live normal lives. We never would’ve made it through middle school without monsters destroying us or the school or both. Still, it was strange looking at my former classmates. I never went backward. Once I left a school, I always tried to leave it behind for good. Besides, the memories were usually bad. But looking at the kids who’d kept going, even stupid old Nancy Bobofit, I felt a wave of sadness wash over me.
“They’re right in the path of the battle,” Grover said, and he looked at me to see what I’d suggest.
“We have to move them,” I said. “Under the bridge, maybe. They’ll be safer.”
“After all she did to us,” Grover mused, “it kind of serves her right to be stomped by a titan army.”
            “But we can’t.”
He sighed. “Yeah. You’re right. Maybe . . . draw a moustache on her, at least?”
Four years ago, it would’ve been tempting. Now, I realized that I didn’t hate Nancy anymore. I was a different person. She was a mortal in the path of danger – we were the only thing between her and destruction.
“No moustaches,” I said. “Annabeth, give me a hand?”
She was studying me carefully, trying to read my thoughts, but she didn’t say anything. She just helped me drag the school group to safety.

Heads Up, Demigods!

Exclusive House of Hades extras. I'm tempted to buy copies from all three places just to get the cool extras, but I'm thinking I'll go for the map of Tartarus.

What about you all?

House of Hades Locations

Apparently Rick is releasing some locations that will be visited in House of Hades. There's two already.

First, I thought this was interesting. From Rick's twitter:

MT: why in TLH Jason said he's from 1st Legion while in SoN Reyna is a praetor in the 12th Legion?/Yeah, that's explained in HoH

Now for the pics.

Neptune statue, location 1.1

Two towers, location 1.2

Unknown, location 2 (Edit: Piazza San Marco, Venice)

Tse (a loyal follower) tells me the Neptune statue is in Bologna, Italy, along with the two towers. Bologna is in north central Italy by the way. As for the lion, I do not know.

Some Big Things!

First, here is the link for Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo, Rick's newest short story.

*Edit: only just discovered that the above link is only a preview. Lemme find the full version...

*Edit #2: Found it! part 1 and part 2. Hope it works for you!

Also, there is a new House of Hades preview. When I watched the vid, I made inhuman sobbing sounds. This is going to be a painful book....

Watch it here. Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Titan's Curse

Looks like it won't be happening... here's what a reliable source tells me: (thanks, ForestQueen!)

I have some slightly bad news. The Sea of Monsters currently is not making any profit. The film took 90 million dollars to make, but the combination of domestic and foreign grosses makes a total of $42,821,000 according to my calculation. We need the gross to go far higher than 90 million in order for their to be a chance to see Titan's Curse on the big screen. I know it was only opening week, but I think we should still try to make an effort to push the numbers up. check out boxofficemojo.

Here.

House of Hades Preview!

The official preview (chapter 1) of The House of Hades was released today with the e-book edition of The Son of Sobek. I literally could have had this up hours ago, but I just got back from vacation a few minutes ago... Sorry I'm a little late. ;)

What do you all think? It doesn't tell us a whole lot about what to expect, but what is Hazel's challenge?

Can't wait to read the rest!

Cover

Expanded, sans words. Gives us a pretty good look at the background.

A Vision of Things To Come

I'm frightened.

Apparently this is some official John Rocco art for The House of Hades. According to myth, this monster here eats people who were thrown alive into the ocean.

In the picture, it looks like Jason on the turtle's head, Frank with the bow, and either Hazel or Piper right there on the deck.

And it looks like the Argo II is sustaining some serious damage.

Anyone else worried?

Thursday, June 6, 2013

Oh...My...GODS.

THE FIRST PAGE OF THE HOUSE OF HADES HAS LEAKED. I REPEAT: THE FIRST PAGE OF THE HOUSE OF HADES HAS LEAKED!

From what I can understand, someone got a hold of an advance copy of The Son of Sobek e-book version, in which the preview was contained. Either that, or they found it in the "Look Inside" thingy on Amazon for the e-book version.

Whatever, the case, I have the first page, AND NOTHING ELSE. The rest of the preview has not been officially released yet, and won't be until June 18. Soon as it's up, I'll post a link,

Now, without further ado, I present...

The House of Hades:

OMG.

I think I was right about the narrators. The Romans (Hazel, Frank, and Jason) get to go a second time. And Annabeth gets a second turn. Rick did say we'll know what's going on in Tartarus. It makes sense for Annabeth to narrate again, that way everyone's done it twice.

I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE REST OF THIS!

New Set Photos!

They look pretty awesome.

What do you guys think??

Also, on behalf of EVERYONE here at DNN: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. RIORDAN!!

I know it's a tad late, but better late than never, right?

Interview

With Logan Lerman. Check it out!

Well, I don't know about you guys, but this movie looks promising, whether or not it's exactly like the book.

New House of Hades Theory

But first, some tweets. Should we be concerned about these, or happy??

Definitely shouldn't be happy about the second one...

Anyway, here's a theory I found. Lemme know what you think:

I think that a lot of us have forgotten what Tartarus originally is.  Tartarus doesn’t exist for the landscape, guys.  It’s a prison.  That’s why people like Tantalus and Kronos are sent there.  And look at how similar Percy and Annabeth’s clothes are in the cover art- like uniforms.  And a lot of people have pointing out how they’re running away from something, right?
What if Percy and Annabeth are escaping from Tartarus.  What if they accidentally lead a godsdamned jailbreak?

GUYS.

Rick was going to release the House of Hades cover today, and it isn't on his blog yet, but it's been released!! (The first one is the UK cover.)

OMG IT LOOKS AMAZINGGG!!!

But here's some interesting questions that someone posed about the cover, some things to consider:

  1. Why do Percy’s eyes look demonic??
  2. Why are the doors closed??
  3. What is the white frozen watery/electricity stuff at the bottom??
  4. Is that a Fury in the upper left corner??
  5. What the heck are they wearing??

What do you guys think?

Trailer Two!

Oh my gawsh it looks so good!

And Thalia!!

I can't... I... Omg.

More Movie News

I hear a rumor that the next Sea of Monsters trailer was scheduled to come out yesterday. I am unable to find it, however, a tweet in the link I posted said that we can expect it next week. The tweet was posted today.

There were also some rumors going around that the second trailer would be released today with Epic, which just hit theaters. I'll keep looking.

I found some pictures, too, from various sources:

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Uhh...

Not so sure what to think about this.

They changed the prophecy... I mean, I guess they had to.

We're Almost There!

Don't forget: the cover for House of Hades will be officially released FRIDAY, MAY 31! It will be shown for the first time at the Children's Book and Author Breakfast, which is an invitation-only event. Therefore, we won't be able to see the cover until Rick posts it later in the day.

Also, June 18, we will be getting a preview of House of Hades with the e-release of The Son of Sobek. No doubt, Rick will put that on his blog and I'll put it right here the second it's available.

Good News, Bad News, and Something I'm Not Sure About...

Here's the something I'm not sure about:

I hear a rumor that it's the scene where Grover is abducted. I also hear the scene at the amusement park (this one here) is where they meet the cyclops and the climax takes place. Anyone else confused??

Now for some good news.

Rick posted on his blog some things about his event on May 31:
"We will be showing the cover art for The House of Hades for the first time that morning! And yes, soon afterward we will show the cover online so you can all get a look. It's fabulous -- that I promise. "

Here's the bad news. He also posted this:
"Advanced reading copies of The House of Hades will be available. HAHAHAHAHA. No. Not true. We haven't done an advanced reading copy of a Heroes of Olympus or Percy Jackson book in many years. I don't want anyone to know the story and spoil it in advance, so everyone will be reading the story on October 8 when it is first available, no sooner! So please don't mob the Disney-Hyperion booth asking for copies, because there are none.

Sneak peeks of The House of Hades will be available. Also not true. The first time you'll be able to read a sneak peek from the book will be June 18, if you purchase the electronic single of The Son of Sobek -- details as I blogged earlier. We will post a free sneak peek online a little later in the summer, as we usually do. More details on that when I get them!"

Looks like we'll be waiting a little longer than usual for the preview. For anyone who doesn't have an e-book, I'll find it online (no doubt, someone will post it) and put a link on this site.

Check out the full blog post here.

For Those of You Who Haven't Read It...

The Son of Sobek was released today, and if, like me, you didn't want to buy another copy of The Serpent's Shadow, you can read it here. Oh my gosh, it's good!

Also, here's something interesting:

Expect the cover/House of Hades preview by the end of the month! (May 31, to be precise.)

Well, This is Exciting

Official cover for the e-single of Son of Sobek, out June 19th, FEATURING A SNEAK PEAK OF HOUSE OF HADES.

However, we will be getting a preview of HoH on May 31. Maybe the one in June is a different one? We'll just have to wait and see.

Monday, May 6, 2013

Don't Forget!

The paperback version of The Serpent's Shadow, featuring The Son of Sobek is coming out TOMORROW. Go buy it! I'm serious! Go!

Anyway, we have a few new stills, and some storyboards. (Thanks, ForestQueen, for sending me the link.)

Did I show you guys this one already?

Some interesting storyboards... I wonder who the tree could be ;)

Rehearsal!

Also, thanks, guys, for 20,000 pageviews!!!

(Relatively Long) Update

First off, thanks, Lynette, for sending me the link for this.

Apparently, Rick plans to write a book in which Percy tells us the original Greek myths. No official publishing date, but you can check out the article in the link above.

Also, here's the entire recent Q&A session from Rick's twitter:

RT: @bloggernot hurry up writing, Rick! / (Yoda voice) "There is no 'hurry up.' Only 'get it right.'" Write faster = write worse.

RT: @liamtome will Heroes of Olympus be the last time we'll read about Percy, Jason and company? / Several years too early to say.

RT: @coleenmikaelson Would you give some teasers/spoilers for HOO? :) / No! (cackles maniacally)

Good opportunity to invite new tweeps to read my FAQ: http://rickriordan.com/about-rick/faq.aspx … Most things ppl ask me are addressed there.

RT: @Hand9_Remy Can you tell us the name of the 5th book HOO ? / WAY too early for that. It'll be printed at the end of HoH, as usual.

RT: @Maddiemoo17 if a god/goddess was in mortal form, what would happen if he/she got hit by a car? / Time for a new car.

I have been called sassy. Please. A 48-year-old man cannot be sassy. Cantankerous perhaps. (Shakes cane. Get off my lawn!)

RT: @LynnPHoran can you please post a picture of you playin guitar.. PLEAAAAASE?? :) /pic.twitter.com/45WDmDcbt1

Oh wait. Wrong pic. Here's me back in the day, circa 1984. And yes, that's my real hair.pic.twitter.com/UxMWL0lKR4

RT: if you give leo a girlfriend can you name her after me. / You realize I've gotten this request 6,784,231 times. No sry. But Leo sez thx.

I really do appreciate how attached readers get to my characters. It's cool that they want even the secondary characters to stay safe.

Me: 'Grover stepped on a twig.' Reader: 'Ah, how could you kill that twig! That twig was my favorite character!!'

RT: @rohmatullohA Rick look at me and Hermes. i met him last week :D

RT: @bethimusprime I think the other fandoms are calling a therapist for us.
pic.twitter.com/Ubaj4cNZ1Z /Disturbing? Perhaps. But I like it!

Supposedly I have 122K followers. Think it's actually 22K & one enthusiastic Brazilian w/100K Twitter accounts. Thank you, my one super fan!

RT: @Odaircubes did you ever had Greek or Latin Classes in high school? /Latin, yes. It was very helpful.

RT: @geekishly A friend & I discussed how knowledgeable you are about locations in your books. How many have you been to? /Most of them.

RT:@thishalfblood what you pretend to write after percy jackson? /Think I'll pretend to write the Great American Novel, but do a MG fantasy.

Reading Best Served Cold, an excellent fantasy. Forgot how much pain @LordGrimdark likes to inflict on his characters. *Wince.*

RT: @oqueidrew What would be if it were not a writer? / Probably still teaching, and that would be fine. I liked teaching.

RT: @VioletOwls How many times will you rip our hearts out and stamp on them in HoH? /Well, I haven't actually counted....

RT: @ThatQurlCris Do you get writers' block? /Not usually but.... ah, dang it. I was going to say something. Oh well.

RT: @livingpercy what do you enjoy doing when not writing books? /Sleeping. Also, I play guitar, read, and hang out with my family.

RT: @Clavinerise Do fans attack you when you go to the mall? /What a scary thought. No. Though I will now be paranoid. Thanks.

RT: @ahsengarfield Will we see more Nico Di Angelo on The House of Hades? /Yes. Quite a bit.

RT: @notrustingducks you're awesome bro ok Thanks for throwing my otp into Tartarus by the way /No problem! Oh, that was sarcasm...

RT: @Books_Follower Did you know you are better than any school teacher? /But I am a school teacher. I just don't have to grade papers now!

RT: @mkwissler Do you think your fans have influenced your writing as your series progresses? /some. Fans convinced me to write about Egypt.

And of course, just the fact that I *have* fans who are waiting to read the next book is awesome. That keeps me excited about writing.

RT: @MvLannister There is any chance of Jason and Reyna staying together? /They never were together.

RT: @choconouis why do i have a feeling that hoh is going to have the worst cliffhanger yet ? /Nah. Nothing could be worse than MoA.

RT: @belongtohale what inspires you to write often? /Deadlines.

RT @CadeMeuSatiro_ how you see yourself in 20 years? /If I'm still alive and still writing, I'll be happy.

RT: @MoonieBalloonie @camphalfblood - Maybe they will, one day. Get to it,
@DerekLandy! /Derek is hands down my sons' favorite author.

RT @KSkogs2113 I'm studying to be a math teacher but your books have me wanting to get a history endorsement! /We need more good teachers!

RT: @dindagale I hope Luke Castellan will show up on the next book. / Sadly (SPOILER) he's dead.

RT: @amandatbh the turn around time for you to write a book is so fast. u go u wizard./Thanks. Usually I hear FASTER, FASTER, FASTER!

Which is a nice compliment too, by the way, but I can't really speed up the process anymore than I already have.

RT: @NatTaylor97 How is planning for the Norse series going? Are you excited? /Excited but still a ways off before I start writing that.

RT: @hadesplease I hope Haley had some input on House of Hades. /He is busy finishing up his own novel, but yes I asked his advice.

All I can tell you about upcoming releases, including first sneak peeks:http://rickriordan.blogspot.com/2013/03/upcoming-release-dates.html …

RT: @EllenStargazer @camphalfblood is officially the first person i stalk online. Demigod fever heavily diagnosed / Take some ambrosia!

RT: @Harun_bala2000 we're probably gonna get a major plot twist like Reyna Beauregard or something /clever idea, but no. : )

RT: @lolpercy you've met with JK Rowling? / No, strangely she doesn't come to San Antonio TX very often.

RT: @percableth is there going to be an epilogue at the end of HoO? / No, I dislike epilogues. Twenty years later, blah, blah, blah.

Honestly, I don't kill that many characters. Never killed a main character. If NO good guys EVER died, that wouldn't be realistic, even in a fantasy.

RT: @peluciodoron Do you like more of PJ or Heroes of Olympus? / Heroes is more challenging & keeps me interested b/c the many POVs.

@wtflovarow You think of any actor playing Leo Valdez?/ I never cast my own characters. I have absolutely no interest in that. Leo is Leo.

RT: @PotterPendragon Do you like Game of Thrones? /Yes, though as with all things, THE BOOKS ARE BETTER.

RT: @FieryValdez thoughts on John Green?/ Don't know him, haven't read him, but I know he's got a big following.

RT:@HungerGamesFCBR are you excited to write a trilogy with suzanne and cassandra? / Uh, what? Great authors, but we don't collaborate. Two writers writing together doesn't always work. Just b/c you like pizza and ice cream does not mean they'd taste good mashed together.

RT: @SublimePotter DO YOU HAVE LUNCH WITH OTHER AUTHORS AND LAUGH AS YOU PLOT ANOTHER DEATH OF A FICTIONAL CHARACTER? / Maybe...

RT: @Deenerys sarcasm you're becoming one of your characters / someone once said: 'You cannot create a character that isn't partially you.'

RT: @p0intofview any emotional scenes coming up in HoH? / No. There will be absolutely no emotions expressed in this book. :P

RT: @karlitaboheme Will we know anything about Grover in HoH? /Okay, very minor spoiler. Yes, you'll see Grover briefly in House of Hades.

RT: @larryth1ngs who is your inspiration for leo? / Leo is totally made up, though I love his character.

RT: @Brawl483Matthew Will there be more Kane Chronicles in the future? /Just "Son of Sobek" short for now. Heroes is keeping me busy!

RT: will Tartarus scenes be 18+ / Since I write middle grade novels, aimed at ages 8-14, I'd have to go with NO, ARE YOU CRAZY?
